In January, we were notified that Big Lots would be closing. This was a very large hit to our sack lunch program, as a good amount of items that go into our sack lunches were provided by Big Lots. In the same week, we also learned that one of the missions that we worked with would be retiring and closing up shop. They were our main bread source.
Since then, we have been searching for ways to build back up the items that we would be losing. But since sack lunches are something we send out every Friday, and we are sending out nearly 100 lunches every week, our stash takes a big hit every week.
Some items that we are extremely low on are
- applesauce cups,
- pudding cups,
- granola bars,
- pop-tarts,
- oatmeal packets,
- sandwich bags to put sandwiches in, and
- bread.
This program is a way to ensure that even while we are closed for the weekend, our patrons are still able to have something to eat on the days we aren’t here. Please consider making donations of the above as soon and as often as you can. Your neighbors need the help with weekend meals and we need your help to provide those meals. Any contributions will be gratefully received!!
